1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT_2.jpg

1961 Aston Martin DB4 GT

- One of just 30 factory left-hand drive DB4 GTs

- Delivered new to famed race team owner Georges Filipinetti

- Successful period competition history

- Retained by one Swiss owner from 1962 to 2010

- Original Goodwood Green livery and comprehensive restoration work by marque specialists

- Retains its original, matching-numbers engine

Completed in June 1961, this left-hand drive DB4 GT was delivered to Swiss-born racing magnate Georges Filipinetti, whose successful privateer racing team Scuderia Filipinetti employed some of the era’s greatest drivers. It is unclear if 0154/L saw competition under Filipinetti’s ownership, but in February of 1962, with just 3,875 km, the car was sold on to Dr. G.E. Reichen who immediately sent the car to Aston Martin for some minor mechanical upgrades, including shorter gearing for his intended use of the car in European hill climbs.

Successfully campaigned, the car took part in the Rallye de Geneve, the St. Ursanne – Les Rangiers, Mitholz-Kandersteg and Rochefort la Tourney hill climbs as well as slaloms at Payerne and Dubendorf. Event photographs and participant badges from the 1960s remain in the car’s file. By 1964 the car had accrued some 28,080 km and received some further mechanical work and minor tuning upgrades. In 1965, at the Rallye de Geneve, the car suffered an accident, necessitating the replacement of the aluminum nose. During this time the car was also repainted blue.

Reichen continued to use 0154/L and retained his beloved Aston until 2010. The car was sold to a German collector who saw to a partial restoration, returning 0154/L to its original Goodwood green color in 2012, while retaining its original red leather interior. The DB4 GT was then sold to a notable American collector in 2016 and the car has remained in the US since that time, having received further restoration and service work by noted specialist Steel Wings.

The DB4GT is a true dual-purpose road-going and racing GT, and certainly one of the most beautiful. A total of just 75 were built, only 30 of which were configured in left hand drive, as with 0154/L. Furthermore, their success on track meant many of GTs were well used and often heavily modified or damaged. This car is a notably correct and original example.

This Aston remains a very high point, restored example, but also benefits from significant mechanical sorting and is a delight to drive. Equally at home on the concours lawn or racetrack, 0154/L offers the owner entry into nearly any event. The DB4 GT is eligible for the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Villa d’Este, the Colorado Grand, Goodwood Revival and countless others.

The Aston is complete with an original instruction manual, workshop manual, event plaques, copies of the factory build sheets, a nice file of documentation, and a copy of the “Chassis Edition” of Palawan’s DB4 GT book number 0154. With great history and limited ownership, this numbers-matching, LHD example is among the very best of the DB4 GTs, making it one of the finest Aston Martins available today.
