1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce Spider - Sold

Coachwork by Pinin Farina

- Desirable late-production 1600cc Veloce Spider

- Presented in striking blue over red color scheme

- A beautifully restored example with a high level of detail

- An outstanding mid-century sports car for shows or tours

While the early history of this late-1964 production Veloce Spider is unknown, the car was registered in 1974 to Robert Alan Wilenker of Fullerton, California. The car then passed to Ken Koupal of Santa Fe, New Mexico, selling it in 1984 to Gene Garfinkle of Newport Beach, California for the sum of $15,000. At this time, the car was recorded as quartz grey metallic with a red interior, and carrying engine serial number AR 00121 01689, the engine which remains in the car today. Based on the file on hand, it appears Garfinkle bought the car having arranged for Koupal to perform some restoration work. Further receipts on file document mechanical work undertake by VRS of Van Nuys on Garfinkle’s behalf.

In 1992, the Alfa Spider was sold to Jerry Lomas of Pasadena, California before being acquired in the late 1990s by Tim Walker, a noted car collector, restorer and Pebble Beach judge. Walker had been searching for a good Veloce Spider to restore and found this long-time California car locally. In 1998 MD Coachworks in Van Nuys undertook the body and paintwork. Much of the remainder of the work was carried out by Walker himself, with a particular eye to detail.

The completed car was finished in a striking dark blue of Walker’s choosing, along with a red leather interior which was expertly trimmed. An Alfa expert will notice the correctness of rare items like lenses and bezels, but also ancillary components. Today, the Veloce Spider remains in very high point condition, with only minor cosmetic blemishes. The car is very correct and complete throughout, with exception of the absence of a soft top. Though minimally used in recent years, we believe the Alfa is just a simple sorting and service away from being a great driver.

As a desirable late-production Giulia Veloce Spider, with the 1600cc engine, twin Weber carbs and 5-speed gearbox, this Alfa is a wonderful classic for a variety of uses from tours and shows to weekend drives.
