1929 Bentley Speed Six

Sold!

Chassis # FR2637    Engine # FR2640

In 1919 WO Bentley built his first car, the 3 Litre. The early 1920s brought swift success with great showings at Indianapolis and the Isle of Man T.T. Winning Le Mans was next on the list and a 1st was achieved in 1924 following a 4th the previous year.  Another outright victory came in 1927. As the legend of the ‘Bentley Boys’ began to grow, the factory put out several new models, the first of which was the 6 ½ litre.

The new six cylinder cars were just as mechanically exciting as all other models. The Speed Six model spawned from the original 6 ½ bring about a higher horsepower performance car. The Speed Six chassis immediately found its way onto the track with the 4 ½ bringing more Le Mans victories as well as triumphs at Brooklands and various GPs. The fame of men like Barnato and Kidston and the WO Bentley were set in stone.

The Bentley shown here is the very sought after Speed Six. This Bentley is a matching numbers car and is astonishingly originally bodied. Of the 182 Speed Sixes produced this is one of only 11 open cars to retain their original bodies and motors and is the only car in this particular configuration.

FR2637 was delivered to Mr. H Donald Hurt in July of 1929. The coachwork on the car is by Park Ward in a wonderfully gorgeous two seat cigar shape boattail with pontoon fenders and an extended bonnet. The car was originally black with red trim. The car is currently undergoing a Pebble Beach restoration to as new specification.
